Psilocybin

What is Psilocybin?

Psilocybin is a naturally occurring psychedelic compound found in certain mushrooms, commonly referred to as “magic mushrooms.” Psilocybin has been used for centuries in various cultural and spiritual practices. Today, it is gaining popularity as a powerful medicine used in clinical settings to promote mental health and wellness.

Therapeutic use of Psilocybin

In therapeutic settings, Psilocybin induces an altered state of consciousness that can lead to profound personal spiritual or mystical insights. Psilocybin is often used once a client is medically and psychologically stable enough to seek more profound insight into the underlying concerns driving their current symptoms.

Who could benefit from Psilocybin therapy?

Psilocybin therapy has shown promise in exposing the underlying causes of various mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD, once the client has developed a sense of stability and insight into their mental health. Psilocybin therapy is not suitable for everyone. Our Medical Director screens carefully for all psychedelic medicines to see which one is right for you. Psilocybin sessions should always be conducted under the guidance of trained Psychedelic Practitioners.

Why Psilocybin?

Psilocybin’s ability to induce transformative experiences and its potential to treat mental health conditions that are often resistant to other treatments make it a compelling option for individuals seeking alternative therapies. It has a shallow addiction profile and is highly safe when clients are appropriately screened and prepared, and the medicine is used in a controlled setting.

How long are the Psilocybin sessions?

Depending on the individual and dosing, each Psilocybin session lasts approximately 6-8 hours. Some clients find relief after only one session, while others require between two and three sessions spread out over several months. Integration with a therapist is essential to realize the full potential of Psilocybin.

What approach does The Sitting Room take with regard to Psilocybin?

The Psychedelic Practitioners at The Sitting Room support clients through their Psilocybin experience using a client-centred, supportive and compassionate approach. Using legally acquired Psilocybin under the authority of our Medical Director, clients are closely monitored by two highly trained practitioners throughout the session. We spend significant time both preparing for and de-briefing the experience. We always provide the client with a confidential summary of their session insights so that they, if they choose, share them with their therapist. With the client’s permission, we work collaboratively with our Medical Director, Dr. Krista Leicht, the client’s therapist, to support the integration process as needed.
